A three-and-a-half-year-old boy who was injured after a fall on his school premises on Monday, died on Tuesday.

The boy, identified as Harshith Swamy, is a resident of Seshadripuram. Harshith was the son of Swamy, a field officer working for a security agency, police said.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 11.30 am on Monday at St Thomas School in Sripuram. The school staff informed the parents that their child had fallen in the play area. The parents rushed to the school and shifted him to M S Ramaiah Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, the police said.

"The incident happened on the school premises and not in the classroom. It was also verified that injuries were not due to any faulty play equipment or toys. It looks like the child hit a sharp edge within the compound leaving him with internal injuries," said a senior police officer. A postmortem was done on Wednesday and the body was handed over to the parents. Sheshadripuram police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
