With the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) scheduled on December 26, the agitating employees on Thursday threatened to obstruct the preparations for the exam if their demands were not fulfilled.
All details of the candidates such as their registration and code numbers, exam centres, question and answer papers, are stored in computers at BU's Development Section. Unless the employees return to work, these files cannot be accessed.
Vice-Chancellor N Prabhu Dev and Registrar (Administration) R M Ranganath visited the agitation spot.
The protesters refused to accept what they termed as BU's ‘lollipop’. “Instead of accepting our demands, the authorities have formed various committees. This is unacceptable," a member of the BU Non-teaching Staff Association said.
V-C hopeful
Exuding confidence about convincing the striking employees to withdraw the agitation, the V-C said that he would issue the 'necessary' orders on Friday. He also hoped that UGC-NET would be conducted as per schedule. The V-C also listed out the protesters' demands and the action taken by the university in this regard. The agitators, however, refused to buy Dev's assurances.
