Bengaluru: The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has been awarded the ‘World Water 2025 Award’ for its outstanding contributions to sustainable urban water supply and management.
The Water Digest Water Awards, presented in collaboration with UNESCO, recognise exceptional efforts by organisations, NGOs, and individuals in water treatment, reuse, and conservation.
BWSSB received the honour for implementing a range of initiatives aimed at ensuring water security in the city. These include reducing unaccounted-for water from 28% to 20%, promoting water conservation through the Green Star Challenge, mandating the use of aerators to improve water efficiency, and replenishing 23 lakes with treated water to boost groundwater levels.
Other key initiatives include providing free water supply to slum areas through 1,700 mini tankers, delivering zero-bacteria water to IT corridors, and setting up a groundwater task force in collaboration with IISc.
The award ceremony will be held in Delhi on March 31.
