The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has chalked out plans to curtail the menace of illegal water connections in City, especially in the areas newly brought under Palike limits.

The board will form teams to take up the drive wherein they will track down illegal connections and disconnect them. If the residents are found reconnecting illegal connections, criminal cases will be booked against them and cost of disconnection recovered, BWSSB said. Residents have been urged to obtain authorised water connections by the month-end.

As per BWSSB records, the City has as many as 7,83,192 authorised water connections. An official of the board said that there were thousands of unauthorised connections, particularly in the newly added areas.

After Cauvery IV Stage II phase was commissioned in October, 2012, efforts were made to encourage residents to avail legal water connections.

BWSSB is losing more than 50 per cent of water drawn from Cauvery in leakages towards unaccounted for water.
