In an order passed by the BWSSB chairman, it was noted that the city is facing a water shortage, and the use of water for such recreational activities need to be stopped.

“Owing to the poor rains, the groundwater levels have plummeted leaving many borewells dry. The board is trying hard to ensure drinking water is available to all households. In such a situation, support from the public is crucial,” the BWSSB statement said.

The order clearly states that there is no ban on cultural celebrations and that the prohibitory order is only aimed at preventing water wastage during the crisis.
