A 25-year-old software engineer was slapped and abused by a cab driver and four of his associates at a busy junction on Sarjapur Road in a case of road rage on November 5.

The victim, working with an IT firm in Bellandur, was riding home on her scooter from work when she got stuck in a traffic jam at the Kaikondrahalli junction around 9.20 pm. The victim noticed the cab driver and his four associates having an argument over vehicles not moving. Several vehicles were stranded and there was a traffic policeman deputed nearby who was struggling to clear the traffic jam.

Meanwhile, the victim confronted the cab driver and tried to tell him to move his vehicle to allow traffic movement. When the cab driver did not relent, she went to the policeman and complained to him.

In a fit of rage, the cab driver slapped her and abused her for interfering in his arguments with others. Meanwhile, other motorists rushed to her help and nabbed the cab driver and his associates while the two others managed to escape.

The suspects were later handed over to Bellandur police while the victim filed a complaint. The suspect Madhusudhan (32), a gym trainer and Manjunath (29), the cab driver were arrested by the police who booked them under IPC sections — outraging the modesty of a woman, criminal intimidation and intentional insult to provoke breach of peace. The police are also on the lookout for two other suspects who are on the run.
