A-29-year-old cab driver was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping and impregnating a 12-year-old girl at Doddabidarakallu in 2014.

The 70th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court judge sentenced Santosh to 14 years in prison and imposed a fine of ₹20,000. He was arrested by the Peenya police in 2014 and booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and the SC/ST Atrocities Act.

Public prosecutor Meena Kumari K J submitted before the court that the girl lived with her mother and brother at Doddabidarakallu and Santosh was her neighbour. In March 2014, when her mother, a garment employee, had gone to work, Santosh entered the house and raped the girl after locking her brother in a room. He threatened to kill them if they revealed the incident to anyone.

She stated that the girl was unaware about what had happened but after six months, there were physical changes in her body and she developed pains. She complained to her mother, who took her to a hospital where doctors told her that she was pregnant. The victim then narrated the incident to her mother, who filed a complaint. The victim gave birth to a baby, which died.

"She is now studying SSLC and doing well in her studies," a police officer said.
