Two people escaped unhurt when the car in which they were travelling caught fire in front of the APMC office in Ramanagaram on Monday afternoon.

On being alerted, the firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire. The incident led to traffic jam on the busy Mysuru-Bengaluru highway for nearly an hour. The police deployed additional staff to ensure smooth vehicular movement.

The incident occurred when the car owner Prem Kumar, a resident of Vidyanagar in Ramanagaram, and his friend Naani were returning to Ramanagaram from Channapattana. There was a thud followed by flames and thick smoke in the car.

The duo had a tough time opening the door and coming out of the vehicle. The car was completely gutted in no time. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
