Mangalore district leader of Bajrang Dal, Puneeth Kottari, has lodged a complaint against Kannada writer U R Ananthamurthy at Mangalore North police station for what he described as his “derogatory” remarks on demigod ‘Panjurli Daiva,’ in his book ‘Bettale Puje Yake Madabaradu?’ (Why nude worship should not be performed?)

In a joint statement, Vishwa Hindu Parishat leader Prof M B Puranik and Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell quoted Kottari as having stated in the complaint that Prof Ananthamurthy “insulted” his (complainant’s) religion and religious beliefs by using derogatory language to prove that “God does not exist.” Kottari has demanded ban on the book and criminal action against Prof Ananthamurthy. A case has been registered at the Mangalore North police station.
