A case of medical negligence has been lodged against Annayya Health Care Centre at Sector V, HSR Layout, following the death of a six-year-old child. The family of the child has attributed the death to an overdose of anaesthesia.
Santosh N was admitted to the hospital and was scheduled to undergo a surgery for the removal of an overgrown tissue on Friday. The child’s parents, on the advice of doctors at the hospital, had consented to the surgery. Residents of Ejipura, the child’s parents --- Nityananda and Mugeshwari --- had staged a protest in front of the hospital on Friday, following the incident.
The child was taken to the hospital around 9 am. The surgery, as per schedule, began at noon. The child’s parents grew anxious after doctors gave them no update on the health condition of the child and requests of the parents to have a glimpse of the child were turned down, family members said.
In the evening, the child’s family was told that he needed additional treatment and was rushed to St John’s Medical College Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
The HSR Layout police are awaiting the post-mortem report. The hospital has been booked under Section 304 (A) of the IPC for death due to negligence. Hospital authorities were unavailable for comment and the hospital remained shut throughout the day.
This is the second incident of medical negligence in the hospital. In 2013, another child Harish who was admitted to the hospital died of an overdose of anaesthesia. A report from the doctors at KIMS Hospital ruled the doctors guilty.
