All the artistes took to the streets outside Ranga Shankara and requested everyone to watch their performance.
Once a big crowd gathered outside Ranga Shankara, they began the act.
The play dealt with the story of an Indian family — a father, mother, son and daughter. All four indulge in illegal activities and get caught. However, they don’t learn a lesson out of this or repent for their deeds.
The short play reflected the mentality of Indians and urged the audience to bring positive changes in their behaviour in a subtle way.
The play was made all the more effective with the help of jingles, songs and drums.
Prashant, the narrator and director, was happy at the positive response he got for the play. He said that the mindset of Indians inspired him to work on ‘I Got Caught’.
“The play revolved around ‘shame morality’ or ‘guilt morality’. We Indians, don’t feel bad while violating rules. We feel bad only when we are caught. I wanted to focus on this mentality,” he explained.
“We were a little doubtful about the effectiveness of the play as it was in English. Usually, street plays are more effective when presented in a regional language. Surprisingly, we received a tremendous response which has motivated us to work even harder,” added Prashant.
Aravind, the playwright, was happy with the good response.
“It was a good experience and great exposure. Though we had performed at Forum and other places before, this was a different. Gathering audience for the show was an amazing experience. We got an opportunity to interact with Arundhati Nag, who congratulated us and happily posed for a photograph with us,” he said.
The actors in the play were Prashant Kumar, Goutham, Aravind, Vidya, Shishira, Sai, Pinush and Pramukh.
