Those arrested have been identified as D A Srinivas and D A Kalpaja, the son and daughter, respectively, of former MP, the late D K Adhikesavalu; and S Y Mohan, a DySP presently posted at the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), Bengaluru.

According to a CBI press release, the arrests were made in cases registered under provisions relating to criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery of valuable security, forgery of government stamps and seals, destruction of evidence and creation of false evidence.

The cases were originally registered by the CBI following directions issued by the High Court of Karnataka, which had ordered a probe into alleged irregularities in the investigation of the death of Raghunath as well as several other connected forgery cases. These matters were earlier probed by the state police.

Subsequently, the high court’s orders transferring the investigation to the CBI were challenged before the Supreme Court, but the Supreme Court upheld the high court’s directions, paving the way for the central agency’s investigation.

CBI officials stated that the accused allegedly conspired to fabricate and manipulate official documents, including government records, stamps and seals, with the intent to mislead the investigation and suppress material evidence. The agency is also probing the role of public servants in allegedly facilitating the creation of false records and the destruction of crucial evidence.

The arrested accused were produced before the jurisdictional court after undergoing medical examination, the CBI said, adding that further investigation is underway to identify the larger conspiracy and other possible beneficiaries.
