The members of the Akhila Karnataka Catholic Christara Kannada Sangha (AKCCKS) on Friday staged a protest at the Freedom Park demanding a CBI probe into the Fr KJ Thomas murder case.

Rafael Raj, General Secretary, AKCCKS, said that they will submit a memorandum to the governor seeking to entrust the probe into the CBI “to see that justice is rendered at the earliest.”

He said that it was not right to level baseless allegations against a group of priests and demanded that arrests should not be made without strong evidence.

Fr Thomas, the 65-year-old rector of the St Peter’s Pontifical Seminary in Malleswaram, was murdered on March 31 last year.

The police recently arrested Fr Elias, a priest in Gulbarga, William Patrick, a parish priest from Kengeri, and Peter, a seminary student at Fr Elias' parish, in connection with the murder.
