A four-member team of officials from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) inspected Varthur lake on Saturday to check the quality of water. Toxic foam from this water body has been spilling over to a nearby road for the past five days.
The team took samples of water for assessing the pollution level. Suresh S, a CPCB member, said that it may take three to four weeks to prepare a report on the sample.
“The report will include the contamination level and chemicals present in the sample. It will be submitted to CPCB, Delhi, and the authorities there will decide the next course of action,” he said.
Lok Sabha member from Bengaluru Central, P C Mohan, who present on the occasion, said that the lake was under the control of Bangalore Development Authority and blamed the civic agency for not setting up a sewerage treatment plant.
He said that industrial effluents and sewerage from apartments were entering the lake directly, polluting the water body.
Members from Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and MLA from C V Raman Nagar constituency, S Raghu, were also present.
