The JP Nagar police have arrested a 23-year-old habitual chain snatcher who took away gold ornaments from women and elderly persons.

A senior police officer said Suhel Pasha, of NRI Layout, Ramamurthy Nagar, was earlier arrested by in Mysuru in a mobile theft case.

Lodged in the Mysuru central prison, Pasha received training from fellow prisoners on how to snatch chains and escape from a crowded place. Walking out on bail, he spotted single women on the streets and snatched their chains.

Pasha was an auto-rickshaw driver and was committing crimes with his friend Imran as an accomplice. Police found him linked to seven cases and recovered 400 grams of gold chains worth Rs 10 lakh and a two-wheeler.

Police further said Pasha was stealing mobile phones in crowded places and leading a lavish life by selling them at throwaway prices.

They are searching for Imran.
