Chain-snatchers target 4 women, patrolling upped

Bike-borne men robbed gold chains from four women in different parts of the city since Tuesday evening. Shakuntala Ramanna, a homemaker from Raghavendra Mutt area was walking towards her yoga centre on Wednesday morning when two men on a bike robbed her gold chain weighing 70 grams. Shakuntala raised an alarm, but the duo sped away before passersby rushed to her help.

In another incident, on Tuesday, Gouramma, a 45-year-old garment factory employee was robbed of her gold chain weighing 20 grams in Manasa Nagar in Chandra Layout on Tuesday night. Gouramma who was returning from work was walking towards her home when the chain snatchers targeted her.

In a similar incident in RMC Layout, a housewife, Jayalakshmamma was robbed of her gold chain weighing 55 grams while she was walking home. Jayalakshmamma had gone to her relatives’ house and got down from the bus and was heading home in Raghavendra Layout when two men on a bike approached her and sped away after snatching her gold chain.

Similarly, a woman was robbed of her chain in Giddappa Block. Savitha was walking home after picking up her child from school on Tuesday afternoon. Two men on a bike rode close to her and sped away after snatching a gold chain weighing 45 grams. The city police have stepped up patrolling in and around the west and north east divisions soon after incidents of chain snatchings were reported by the control room. The police suspect the same gang behind all the four incidents and are verifying CCTV footage to identify them.
