The Kanakanapalya playground in Jayanagar ward is not the same any more in the evenings.

Children who used to flock here are conspicuously absent.

On the other hand, workers are busy readying the place for the inauguration of the first Indira Canteen here by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on August 15.

Officials have left no stone unturned to give the canteen a new look. The entrance to the canteen has been designed in a unique way.

Littered all over the park is cement, mortar and concrete bricks. Children being robbed of their play area has irked the residents.

Sujatha, a resident, said, “It is sad to see children not coming here anymore as there is no space for them to play. Earlier, my two used to come here in the evenings to play. The canteen has destroyed their playground.”

However, Jayanagar corporator Gangambika did not see any reason for children not to turn up at the playground. “There is enough space for children to play. BBMP is only building a pathway and creating lawns.”
