The decision to suspend 40 officials in the PU Board was taken after CID officials probing into the paper leak case apprised the Legislative Assembly Speaker, Kagodu Thimmappa, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, of their findings. It is understood that they furnished an oral report.

Following the Opposition’s outcry in the Assembly after the second chemistry question paper too got leaked, Thimmappa summoned a meeting of the Education department and CID officials, and sought the interim report.

Ajay Seth, principal secretary, Education department, Pallavi Akurathi, director, department of PU Education, Sonia Narang, DIG, CID and Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Ratnakar were present in the meeting.

Sources said the Speaker had sought an interim report from the CID officials about the first paper leak. Ratnakar, however, is learnt to have said the CID would not be able to do so, as the Education department had not sought an interim report. It is learnt that though the Speaker was ‘satisfied’ with the oral report submitted by the officials, he has sought a final report on both paper leaks at the earliest. The same team later met Siddaramaiah, who gave his nod for the suspension of the officials.
