The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) sleuths will question former minister M P Renukacharya in connection with the II PU Chemistry question paper leak earlier this year. The decision to question Renukacharya comes in the wake of regular telephonic conversations between Renukacharya and the prime suspect in the case Shivakumaraiah.

The two exchanged close to 30 phone calls a month. Renukacharya was in touch with Shivakumaraiah till February 2016, a CID officer told Deccan Herald while refusing to divulge details about when the former minister would be questioned.

The officer clarified that at this stage, the CID didn’t suspect Renukacharya’s involvement in the racket. “We want to know the nature of relationship that existed between the two. The CID analysed call details of the two. The analysis doesn’t indicate Renukacharya’s involvement in the case, but it’s necessary to quiz him,” the officer said.

When contacted, Renukacharya told Deccan Herald that he did not know Shivakumaraiah. “I don’t know Shivakumaraiah. I never called him. I am ready for any investigation,” he said.

“My daughter is studying SSLC, while my son is pursuing mechanical engineering. None of my brothers’ children were in PUC. Hence, the question of my seeking Shivakumaraiah’s assistance doesn’t arise,” said.
