The Jayanagar police apprehended Mohammed Zabiuddin alias Tabrez, 39, a rowdy-sheeter, and his accomplice Mohammad Mehtab, 34. The duo, former college classmates from South Bengaluru, turned to chain snatching and robbery after their studies to make quick money, the police said.

Their criminal history is extensive — courts had issued 36 non-bailable warrants (NBWs) and 16 proclamations against Zabiuddin, while Mehtab had 19 NBWs and 11 proclamations.

A senior officer stated that both were arrested in 2023, but released on bail, after which they resumed their crimes.

"To avoid capture, they never stayed in one place, checking into different hotels daily. They had been on the run for the past two years,” an investigator told DH.

On February 21, the police received a tip-off about their whereabouts and arrested them at a hotel in Frazer Town, East Bengaluru.

Commending the Jayanagar police, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda awarded the team a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
