A number of schools in the City have been collecting relief materials to send them to flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir and play a small part in improving the situation there.
At Delhi Public School (DPS), Yelahanka (North), the teachers have even donated a day’s salary for the cause.
“Students have been donating clothes and other supplies. Even the parents of students have been asked to help in the effort,” said Manju Balasubramani, principal, DPS (North).

Students of Trio World School (TWS), Sahakara Nagar have donated ready-to-eat food, utensils, clothes such as woollens, blankets, tarpaulins, torch and batteries etc, worth Rs 1.5 lakh, to be sent to J&K.
“A lot of people have lost their lives and a great many remain stranded though Army and NDRF are fully involved in rescue operations. In times like these we wanted to extend our help and ease the victims’ plight,” said TWS Managing Director Naveen.
Class 11 students of the Canadian International School, Yelahanka, have organised a ‘bake sale’ to raise money for the flood victims. The school has also collected food items such as wheat, flour, lentil, rice and other necessities such as soaps, mosquito coils, cookies worth Rs 1.5 lakh from its students.
These schools are sending their supplies through Goonj, an NGO that is coordinating with various schools in the City. According to Chandan Sharma, a representative of Goonj, as many as 8 to 10 City schools are expected to send in their donations and supplies in a few days.
“In addition to them as many as 10 to 12 companies and 10 to 12 apartment complexes around Sarjapur, Whitefield and Bannerghatta will also donate supplies. Many citizens have also come forward to donate generously. A number of other organisations and groups who had been independently collecting supplies have also approached us,” he said.
