The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Friday submitted before the High Court of Karnataka that it had cleared all the garbage from the streets in the City.
In an affidavit dated October 31, following Public Interest Litigations seeking clearance of the City’s garbage, the joint commissioners of all the Palike zones said: “Details of vehicles, men and machinery that are being deployed on the grounds is being uploaded on the website. Intensive cleaning of our zones has been done and as on this day, there is no uncleared garbage lying for more than 24 hours.”
Even Commissioner Rajneesh Goel expressed a similar opinion before the Division Bench: “There is no uncleared garbage on streets of Bangalore as on today.”
The Palike also submitted that it would introduce mobile governance system in each ward to keep a tab on garbage collection.
Goel said that the facility would have geo-referral photos and would check garbage collection and cleaning operations. “Public can send pictures of uncleared garbage. All the assistant executive engineers will be given Android handsets to help monitoring the work.”
Permanent solution
Speaking to party workers at Palace Grounds, Deputy Chief Minister R Ashoka claimed that a permanent solution would be chalked out to end the garbage menace and to curb the trash mafia.
The City will be clear of garbage by Deepavali festival. “We are not responsible for the present problem. The previous governments did not find a permanent solution to end the menace. But, we will do it. The City will not face the problem for next 50 years,” he said. However, he did not explain the proposed solution.
The government will increase the buffer zone around the landfill to 100 metres, he added.
