City in-charge and Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has set a deadline of three months for Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to clean up the debris on Metro sites where work has already been completed.
Following a large number of complaints from residents alleging that roads were in a poor state because of Metro works, Reddy, on Monday, visited Metro sites in Jayanagar, Basavangudi, Lalbagh, Sarakki, National College, South End Circle, J P Nagar, Banashankari, among other places.
“Though Metro works were completed, no one bothered to remove construction debris and other waste from the roads — seriously inconveniencing pedestrians and commuters,” the minister said. He promised to carry out a second inspection next week.
Former deputy chief minister R Ashoka who was present during the inspection said the Metro project was being delayed due to lack of coordination between Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the BMRCL. “I hope at least now they speed up the work,” he said.
Magadi road restoration
A BMRCL official said that the BBMP will soon invite tenders for the restoration of Magadi Road, and added that the Metro authorities were ready to fund the work.
Mayor Venkatesh Murthy, Jayanagar legislator Vijaya Kumar, BBMP member N R Ramesh among other officials were present during the inspection.
Important meeting
According to BMRCL sources, an important meeting will be held on Tuesday in New Delhi.
“There is a possibility that the higher authorities will give a green signal to start the Metro Reach-2 plan during this meeting,” they said.
