Railway officials say the equivalent of the electricity needed to run the Climate Express was bought from renewable sources. UN Environment Programme director Achim Steiner says it is possible to adopt more climate-friendly lifestyles, pointing to Germany’s move away from fossil fuels over 10 years.

He called for more investment in public transportation on Saturday.

About 15,000 people are expected at the convention opening on Monday.
