CM announces Rs 25 crore towards relief works

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who reviewed situation in rain-affected areas in Bangalore on Saturday, announced Rs 25 crore towards relief works in the rain-affected districts.

Normal life in many parts of the State, including Bangalore, has been badly affected due to rains. The Government machinery has been attending to the immediate needs of the affected people, he added.

Stating that districts of Gulbarga division were worse affected, the Chief Minister announced Rs five crore additional for relief works in the division. The Government had taken a decision to sanction houses under the Ashraya scheme to all the families who have lost their houses in the rains. Besides, the deputy commissioners had been directed to take necessary steps to sanction relief to those who lost property in the rains.

Officers of the Revenue Department briefed the Chief Minister that crops grown on  vast tracts of agriculture land was washed away in the rains. The officers are yet to assess the damage caused. Paddy grown in hundreds of acres in Davangere, coffee plantations in Chikmagalur have been badly affected.
