Faced with criticism over his convoy blocking an ambulance in Bengaluru, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday directed the police not to stop ambulances in order to make way for his convoy.

“I was not aware of the incident (of traffic police stopping an ambulance). I learnt about it through media reports. I had directed the police not to stop ambulances. Still, the incident has happened unexpectedly,” he stated. The police have been directed to ensure that such incidents do not recur, he said.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when the chief minister was on his way to Ravindra Kalakshetra on JC Road to attend “Bhageeratha Jayanti” organised by the Kannada and Culture department. As the convoy reached Town Hall, the police stopped the traffic on JC Road. Among the vehicles stuck in the traffic was an ambulance.
