Bangalore Bus Prayaanikara Vedike, which conducted a bus stop audit, plans to present its report to transport minister shortly.
The Vedike conducted bus stop audit at several stops on Frazer Town – Byrati Cross and Frazer Town – Nagawara Signal route on Wednesday.
It received several complaints about lack of bus shelters in northeastern parts of City.It was found there are only two stops with shelter. At the rest, there’s no shelter, no seat, nor signboard to indicate it is a bus-stop.
Along Tannery Road en route to Nagawara, only three out of 12 stops have shelter. In addition to lack of shelter, harassment of women was a big issue.
At Hennur depot bus stop women spoke of drunken men harassing women and children in evening hours. Girl students are often followed or commented upon making it difficult for them to use the stop.
At Hennur Bande Stop women complained of harassment. Women at Doddi bus stop, on Tannery Road, spoke of harassment from men on footpath, in evening hours. Nagawara Signal was the worst.
The junction has three stops – one towards Hebbal, one towards Thanisandra and one towards K R Puram.Not a single stop has a shelter.
Buses going towards Hebbal stop near an under construction flyover, where there is threat of construction material falling.
