The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike on Friday told the High Court that it had no role in the demolition of the compound wall of the Esteem Mall near Hebbal Flyover to facilitate construction of a skywalk.

In its objections to the petition filed by Esteem Mall challenging the notice issued by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) seeking the possession Mall’s land to build skywalk, the BBMP has said that the issue was between the Esteem Mall and National Highways Authority of India  and it had no role in the matter.

BBMP has stated that it had been wrongly impleaded in the petition.

A speeding tanker mowed down two persons near the Mall on February 27. In the wake of the accident, the State government has asked the BBMP to build a skywalk to avoid similar mishaps in future. The National Highways Authority of India  has issued notice to Mall to hand over the portion of land required for the skywalk and service road.
The acquisition process had been challenged in the High Court.
