The BJP and Congress workers took turns to stage protest near the Banaswadi police station on Wednesday levelling charges and counter-charges.

To begin with, the BJP workers including party General Secretary C T Ravi staged a protest in front of the police station accusing the police of taking sides with Congress, and in particular Home Minister K J George, who represents the Sarvagnanagar Assembly constituency. They also alleged that the Congress was using rowdy elements for electioneering, thus disturbing peaceful canvassing.

A senior police officer said, “The BJP workers left the premises of the Banaswadi police station only after the senior police officers assured to take necessary action against people trying to create a conflict. As soon as they left, the Congress workers came to the police station and staged a protest. They claimed that the BJP workers were making baseless allegations.  They were pacified and both of them have raised the issues which will be looked into.”

P Harishekaran, Additional Commissioner of Police (East), and Satish Kumar, DCP (Central), rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation and asked the crowd to leave the premises.

People living near the police station had a harrowing time, as the protesters were shouting slogans through a loudspeaker and several vehicles were parked on the road making it difficult for the public to use  the stretch.

Also, the students of a college located near the police station said that they could hear nothing in the classroom due to the loud sloganeering by the protesters.
