A police constable's wife ended her life by hanging in Shivajinagar on Tuesday morning due to differences with her husband, police said. Afzana (26) is the wife of Mulka Sab (27) a constable attached to Shivajinagar police station.

According to police, the couple was married for nearly five years and had two daughters, one four and the other two years of age. The couple had differences over financial issues. On Tuesday, Afzana fought with Sab over money that she needed to pay for one of their daughters’ tuition, which he refused to give. On Tuesday morning,  after Sab left for work, Afzana hanged herself in the house after putting her two-year-old daughter to sleep. When the daughter woke up, she started crying,  which prompted the neighbours to check on Afzana, whom they found hanging.

Neighbours informed the police who rushed to the spot. “There was no death note. An inquest was conducted in the presence of the tahsildar to rule out any suspicion or foul play,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Division) Ajay Hilori. “The girl's family members had lodged a complaint and we have taken up a case of unnatural death and are investigating further,” said a senior police officer from Shivajinagar police station.
