The sleuths from CCB Cheating and Misuse Wing have solved three cases of counterfeit consumer goods by arresting eight persons.

Mohammed Khamaruddin, 36, and his associate Mohammed Moinuddin, 36, were arrested in KG Halli and are charged with selling fake products, claiming that they were the same as those shown on reputed telemarketing channels. Counterfeit goods worth Rs five lakh were seized from the house of Khamaruddin.

In another incident, four were arrested for selling counterfeit suitcases under reputed brand names in Upparpet. The arrested have been identified as Nazeer Ibrahim (45), Sibgatullah (21), Nazeer (25), Mustafa (30), all residents of Bangalore. CCB raided their shops on SP Road and seized 10 suitcases valued at Rs 25,000. A case has been registered at Upparpet police station.

In a third incident, CCB sleuths raided two shops in KB Complex on SP Road and seized Microsoft software worth Rs six lakh. The arrested are: Murali, 20 and Bhavani, 20 both residents of Bangalore. It was found that the accused were selling CDs with pirated software. A case has been registered at Ulsoor Gate police Station.
Mechanic killed

A middle-aged man died in Chamarajpet after he rammed his scooter into an electricity pole, late Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Afzal Khan, 47, a resident of JJ Nagar. The incident occurred on 5th Main Road at about 11.45 pm, when Afzal was on his way home. It was raining heavily. Slick water conditions and the fact that Afzal was speeding caused in the accident, police said.

Afzal was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious head injuries after hitting the pole. Rushed to a nearby hospital, he was declared brought dead. An autopsy was conducted at Victoria Hospital, before the body was handed over to the grieving family on Sunday afternoon.

Basavanagudi Traffic police have registered a case. Khan was employed as a two-wheeler mechanic in Chamarajpet.
