Disappointed over not getting a share in the ancestral property, a middle-aged couple ended their life by consuming poison at their Mahadevapura residence on Tuesday.

Police said Ramachandra Reddy, 55, and his wife Yashodamma, 50, were facing a financial problem and were upset over the dispute pertaining to their ancestral property.

Ramachandra was not in good terms with his brother Veera Reddy and the brothers quarrelled over property on Monday.

Ramachandra returned home inebriated, asked his wife to consume poison and minutes later, he too consumed it.

Neighbours who noticed the couple writhing in pain shifted them to a nearby hospital where they died later, police said.

Ramachandra hailed from Malur in Kolar. They are survived by a son and a daughter.
