Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Ltd (CCIC) has once again come back with ‘Shilpi Haat’, an exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts and handlooms at the Rajiv Gandhi Handicrafts Bhavan. The exhibition will remain open till August 31.

The exhibition comprises display of different handicrafts and handlooms fabrics, varieties of wood carving, stone carving, wooden furniture, shell craft, dress materials, in silks, cottons and blends.

All the handicrafts and handlooms are hand-crafted by master weavers and craftspersons including national and state awardees from across India. It also has unique and fresh monsoon collection of trendy ready-to-wear dress fabrics and sarees in exquisite designs and colours keeping in mind the festive mood.

Ganpat Lal Mali, a state awardee who is exhibiting hand-printed jewellery boxes, says, “The sale has been so-so, not that great. Hopefully, it will pick up in the coming days. One of the factors is that this place is not situated well. It is also on the first floor and people are unaware of this venue.”

Another craftsman is showcasing miniature versions of musical instruments that definitely merit a buy. Carrying forward the legacy since 150 years, this stall has miniature tablas, dholaks, sitars, gramophones, flutes, harmoniums and more, crafted with a finesse otherwise hard to find.

To decorate your home, you can pick hand-woven carpets and kantha bedcovers and linen, to add to a smart home. Colourful toys and wall hangings can also be an add on to this exciting shopping experience.

Jatin Jain from Punjab has exclusive show pieces. “We have elephants made from sheesham wood with intricate inlay work which takes around six months to complete.” Showing one the jewellery boxes done in the same pattern, he shares, “A box like this was gifted to the Prime Minister by our state. They bought it from us.”

A stall from Odisha has varieties of hand-crafted showpieces from single stones, which takes around a month to get completed! All in all this exhibition-cum-sale is worth attending and worth spending some also!
