The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) was scheduled to inspect Namma Metro’s first-six car train late on Thursday night.

A source in the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said the CRS would conduct several tests from necessary preparations at the platform to speed, acceleration and brake tests.

The inspection is crucial since it assesses the capacity of the system, including the trains and the software, to support the additional cars and their load. A safety certificate from the CRS is must for the first train. Subsequently, the remaining six-car trains can be run without any inspection by CRS, the source added.

Starting June, Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) is set to supply two or three sets of three intermediate cars every month. The BMRCL has 50 trains and hopes to add three cars each to at least 10 trains in the next three to four months to enhance the convenience of travellers and introduce a women-only coach.

Officials said the inspection was to start around 11 pm on Thursday and end around 1 am on Friday but the commissioner could choose to run more tests if necessary.
