The day-long event, that attracted good participation, featured a flower show at the park’s Band Stand and several competitions, including rangoli making, painting, dance, music and fancy dress. Umesh Kumar, President of the association, said that more than 300 people across all age groups participated in these competitions.

Several women participants expressed their excitement about the event, emphasising its role in providing a platform for self-expression through art forms like dance, music, painting, and rangoli. Many shared how such occasions bring a sense of appreciation and acknowledgment often missing in daily life.

“We draw rangoli every day, but it often goes unnoticed. These events make us feel that our talents are valued, and that’s what excites us,” said Veena, a participant.

For many women, these gatherings revive opportunities to showcase talents that have taken a backseat to family and work responsibilities. Kavita Shetty, a dance teacher and theatre artist, said that it is important to provide budding talents a platform. Speaking at the dance competition with her troupe, she told DH how such opportunities inspire young artists to continue pursuing their passion and deepen their connection to the art form.
