The project which was already in the pipeline was given a push after Major General A K Pradhan, General Officer Command and Col D M Purnimuth, Director (Projects) met BWSSB Chairman P B Ramamurthy here on Thursday.

The Army uses Ulsoor lake for its training purpose. To maintain a clean environment at the lake premises, the officers had requested the BWSSB chairman to divert the waste water through separate lines. The total cost of the project is Rs 2.25 crore. The estimated cost of laying a pipeline from Jayamahal is Rs 1.5 crore, while that of laying a separate pipeline from Machalibetta is Rs 75 lakh.

Waste water including sewage water from Jayamahal, Frazer Town, Tannery Road, Wheeler's Road and from Machalibetta, M V Garden, Murphy Road and Domlur enters Ulsoor Lake and flows to Amarjyothi Layout, Karnataka Golf Association, Chalaghatta Valley and then to Bellandur Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP). Now BWSSB will be laying a separate pipeline from Gandhigram, Wheeler's Road to divert sewage from storm water drain.

Pipelines which are as old as 30 to 40 years measuring 600 dia mm will be replaced with 900 dia mm pipes.
