Doc stabbed to death

A City-based doctor, Purushottam, 54, was allegedly stabbed to death by an auto driver near his clinic Thursday night in Yelahanka New Town.

Alert members of the public helped the police arrest the suspect, Shankar, 39.

A native of Mysore, the doctor resided at Chikkabommasandra ‘A’ sector in Yelahanka New Town. His son Chiranjeevi is pursuing a medical course in the City. Purushottam was practising at his ‘Manjunatheshwar Polyclinic’ in a portion of the house owned by Shankar, for the last 17 years.

Shankar’s wife Kantha (32) is employed as a sweeper at the clinic and the couple have two daughters aged 14 and 8 years. Th police said Shankar suspected that the doctor had an affair with Kantha and was planning to settle scores with him.

When Purushottam was leaving for home at around 9.45 pm, Shankar attacked him with a knife. “I heard someone screaming for help and was horrified to see Shankar stab the doctor.

Soon, a few residents rushed to rescue the doctor,” Thimme Gowda, a neighbour said. The doctor was rushed to the government hospital, but to no avail, he added.
 The onlookers caught Shankar, thrashed him and handed him over to the police.
