Hemavathi, who was rescued from her house in Malleswaram on Tuesday morning and shifted to Nimhans, has been recovering at the hospital.
The doctors at Nimhans said her health was their top priority, and on Wednesday, she was given a sponge bath, her hair cropped and nails cut. She was also put on a proper diet.
Dr V L Sateesh, Medical Superintendent, Nimhans, said: “We conducted tests on Hemavathi and found that she suffers from malnutrition, anaemia and depression. She does not suffer from any neurological problems. The initial doubt of paralysis has now been ruled out; she suffers from joint problems. We have asked for an orthopaedic’s consultation and we will get reports soon.”
Meanwhile, officials from the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) visited the victim on Wednesday. Sunil Agarwal, IGP, SHRC, told Deccan Herald that while he visited her at Nimhans, the doctors advised him not to disturb her. He said her health was top priority for the commission too, and hence, he did not record her statement.
The officials, however, visited Hemavathi’s house at Malleswaram and recorded the statements of her neighbours and relatives. Thirty-five-year-old Hemavathi was confined to her house for years by her parents and was rescued by the City police on Tuesday.
