Nearly 4,000 government doctors who had been staging a protest since August 4, called off their agitation Tuesday evening, after the State government agreed to increase their salaries.
The protesters, who had set August 14 as deadline for the government to respond to their demands, withdrew their resignations.
Dr H N Ravindra, president, Karnataka Government Medical Officers’ Association (KGMOA) said the doctors who have served in government hospitals up to six years will get an increment of Rs 6,000; those with six to 13 years of work experience will be entitled for a hike of Rs 7,000; and doctors with a service record of 13 years and longer will be given a hike of Rs 8,000.
Two of the 11 district hospitals being managed by the Department of Medical Education will be handed over to the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
