'Dogs were poisoned'

According the post-mortem report, the vital organs of the dogs had haemorrhaged due to the poison.

BBMP Joint Director (Animal Husbandry) Dr Parveez Ahmad Piran said the Palike has asked for strict vigilance of the area at night. Piran said: “We have sought patrolling to be intensified to help in arresting the culprits and also to avert such incidents of killing stray dogs in the future.”

Besides, the food samples were sent to the Forensic Sciences lab for analysis and the Palike may receive the report in a week.

Animal rights activists in the City have announced a reward up to Rs 20,000 to those who tip off the police leading to arrest of those who poisoned the dogs. The Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO) has announced the reward for providing information to facilitate the arrest of the culprits.

Animal rights activist from Compassion Unlimited Plus Action Suparna Ganguly has decided to write to the City Police Commissioner to probe the stray dogs’ death.

Killing dogs is an offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
