The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has suspended one of its superintendents for allegedly cheating unemployed youth by promising them government jobs. R K Ramakrishna, the suspended official, was working at the Deputy Director’s Office (Bangalore North).

According to complaints received by the department, in 2007-08, Ramakrishna had pocketed about Rs 1.10 crore, promising jobs to youths in various government departments.

A DPI release dated November 26 stated that the complainants had produced documents pertaining to Ramakrishna’s bank account and the cheques they had given in his name in return for the favour. The complainants have also submitted documents regarding the fake appointment letters issued to them by the official. The release stated that prima facie Ramakrishna was found guilty. However, pending a departmental inquiry, he has been suspended from his services with immediate effect.
