The High Court has directed the State government to come up with a solution and notification based on the recommendations by the Environmental Management and Policy Research Institute (EMPRI) with regard to protection of the Tippagondanahalli (TG Halli) reservoir and its catchment area.

A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice B V Nagarathna granted time till November to the  government to come up with the solution. The government submitted that they had received the final report from EMPRI and they would need time to examine it.

A batch of petitions have been filed with regard to the rejuvenation of Arkavathi river and removal of encroachments on the river course. The High Court took suo motu cognisance of the matter as the government failed to implement the norms issued in 2003 to protect the catchment area of the reservoir. The government withdrew the notification in 2014.
