A woman tech professional has claimed that she may have been raped on Tuesday after a night out in a Koramangala pub.
But police investigation has failed to substantiate the alleged sexual assault.
On the night of December 12, the woman, said to be in her 20s-30s, partied at the pub. She reportedly walked away in an inebriated condition and fell unconscious. On gaining consciousness, she discovered that she was at least two kilometres away from the pub.
Suspecting that she might have been raped while lying unconscious, the techie approached the Koramangala police on Wednesday, urging an investigation.
Acting on the complaint, police scrutinised the CCTV footage and found no evidence of sexual assault. Their investigation showed that the woman went to the pub alone and was drunk when she exited. She walked for about two kilometres in a semi-conscious state and tripped twice before blacking out.
On regaining consciousness, the next day, the woman contacted the police, narrating her ordeal and expressing concerns about a possible rape.
An investigating officer told DH that the techie entered the pub alone around 8.30 pm on Tuesday and exited at 11.30 pm, intoxicated and struggling to walk. She sustained scratches on her hands and legs from two falls, the officer further revealed.
"When she gained consciousness, she couldn’t recall stepping out of the pub and grew anxious seeing scratches on her hands. Hence, she suspected rape and filed a complaint,” the officer added.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) CK Baba said no sexual assault was established despite a thorough probe. "We observed nothing and the video footage was shown to the woman. She was convinced and felt safe and relieved after the investigation,” he added.
Baba, however, said another round of investigation will be conducted.
