On May 9, around 2.40 am. head constable Prakash and constable Manjunath were on Cheetah duty, spotted a car parked near Kurubarahalli circle where some youths were drinking liquor. The policemen advised them to leave as consuming liquor in public was not allowed.

A cab driver who saw the action, alerted the control room, even as a shocked Manjunath managed to hold on to his walkie-talkie and screamed into it: “sir circle, circle problem.”

DCP (West) Shivakumar, who was on night rounds, ordered the nearest Hoysala to rush to the spot. The police team, which landed in time, caught  Kumara (24) and Dinesh (24) and bundled them off to the police station. The others managed to escape.

The two were sent to for medical examination at the K C General Hospital. The two constables were treated for injuries at the same hospital.

For close to a day and half, the two youths were kept in the lock-up, but were released after a petty case was registered against them as a formality.
