A few CCTV footages helped the Jeevan Bima Nagar police to arrest Maharastra based Nareen Madanlal Sharma (43) from Pune and Mumbai's Mukesh Naveen Ramaiaha (24). The police said, the two, who were into cricket betting and horseracing, suffered huge losses and took to crime.

Modus operandi

The two would check in to budget lodges in the city, hire a cab and drive straight to star hotels. Recently, they landed in Leela Palace and walked into the jewellery outlet there.

They selected an expensive necklace ( diamond studded platinum) and convinced the shopkeeper to send a representative to deliver the piece and collect the cash.

On reaching the hotel lobby, they struck a conversation and forcibly made the representative sit on the sofa. During the course of the conversation, one of them left the place while the other walked away with the valuables. Apparently, the victim fell for the smart dress and glib talk of the two.

In another incident, the two zeroed in on three expensive watches from a outlet on Richmond Road –– one diamond studded and two gold watches worth around Rs 27 lakh.

Here, they brought the representative along with them to Oberoi hotel lobby and sneaked out with the valuables.
