Duo held for trying to rape colleague at private hospital

The HAL police arrested two employees of Sakra World Hospital in Marathalli on the charge of trying to rape their colleague in the early hours of Monday.

According to the police, the arrested have been identified as Mohammed Shahabuddin and Moinul Islam, from Assam. The accused and the victim work as housekeeping staff.

In the early hours of Monday, the accused asked the victim, a 20-year-old woman, to clean the operation theatre. When she went inside, they locked the door and tried to rape her. When she raised an alarm, the duo opened the door and let her go. Other staff members and patients gathered outside the OT. 

They locked up the duo inside the OT and informed the police. The HAL police went to the hospital and arrested them. The two have been booked for outraging the modesty of the woman. Besides, the police have issued a notice to the hospital seeking details of the security measures in place.

Drug peddlers arrested
The Mico Layout police arrested two people who were trying to sell ganja near Hosur Road on Monday.

The accused are Deepak Kumar Sahu (25) a MBA graduate and his friend Subrath Kumar (27), both from Odisha. The police seized 7.8 kg of ganja. Based on a tip-off, the police arrested them at a secluded place near Hosur Road. They told the police that they had purchased the substance from Odisha at a cheaper price and planned to make big money by selling it to the youth in here.  

Toddler drowns
A one-and-half-year-old girl drowned in an open pit at HSR Layout in the city on Tuesday.

The police identified the toddler as Renuka, daughter of Shivalingappa, a migrant construction worker from Kalaburagi. He works at an underconstruction building and stays in a makeshift shed. Shivalingappa’s wife, also a construction worker, came back from work around 5.30 pm and did not find Renuka at the shed. 

She found Renuka lying dead in the pit. The child is said to have fallen into the pit.
