The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested two people who attempted to sell fake gold on Thursday.

According to the CCB police, Arjun, 31, and Rahul, 21, both natives of Gujarat and living in Mandya for the past few years, claimed to a woman vegetable vendor at NR Road that they had found gold on an agricultural land and wanted to sell it because they needed money for an emergency back home.

They showed the woman a nose pin saying they would sell the rest of the gold to her if she believed them.

The woman had her doubts and so asked her son to check out the authenticity of the nose in. They soon learnt that it was fake.

Not wanting to let them get away with fraud, the woman asked Arjun and Rahul to bring the rest of the gold.

When they did, the woman’s son caught them and handed them over to the CCB police.

Police have recovered 1,298 grams of fake gold jewellery and mobile phones from the suspects.
