US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi arrived in Taiwan despite threats from Beijing of serious consequences, becoming the highest-ranking American official to visit the island in 25 years.

Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara on Saturday reportedly asked the Bangalore Development Authority officials to hand over control of the city's flyovers to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike.

At a meeting to review the BDA's action plan, Parameshwara expressed his unhappiness about the quality of work in building the flyovers across the city.

"Your (BDA's) expertise is building houses and developing residential plots for citizens. Why do you want to build these mega structures?" Parameshwara reportedly asked the officials, while directing them to write to the BBMP commissioner to take over the construction and maintenance of the flyovers.

Complaints

Panic broke out after the Hebbal flyover, currently under the BDA's control, developed cracks. Parameshwara also received a complaint about the poor quality of work in building a flyover near the Dr Rajkumar memorial at the Nandini Layout junction on Outer Ring Road. The complaint stated that the asphalted joints were wearing out due to poor work.
