A retired DRDO scientist and his wife were found murdered at their posh Kasturinagar residence under Ramamurthy Nagar police limits on Tuesday evening.

The police suspected that Pattabhiraman Naidu, 73, and his wife Indira, 67, were murdered  for gain, but did not rule out other motives. Some valuables were found missing from the house. The murder came to light around 8 pm when their son Chandrashekhar, a lab technician at New Horizon College, returned home. The door was partially open. He saw his parents lying in a pool of blood in the living room.

The couple were hit on their head. They died on the spot. Blood stains were seen all over the floor, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Kamal Panth said.

The assailants had an easy entry into the house. The police suspect involvement of some persons known to the victims. Preliminary probe indicated that the couple had a property dispute with close relatives. The police are likely to question them, and Chandrashekar, who reportedly had a strained relationship with his parents.

Naidu, who retired 10 years ago, lived on the ground floor of the house.  He had rented out the first floor a month ago.
