The Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) has registered an FIR against K R Puram MLA Byrathi Basavaraj and some Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials for encroaching upon the pavement near ITI Factory on Old Madras Road.

According to a BMTF official, former BBMP commissioner Kumar Naik, joint commissioner of Mahadevapura zone Umanand Rai, chief engineer Parmeshwar, executive engineer Ranganath and assistant executive engineer Parmeshwar Gowda, have been named in the FIR.

Former corporator N R Ramesh had approached a local court and complained that the MLA and the BBMP officials had encroached upon the pavement near the factory and had erected shops for commercial purpose. The pavement shops were alloted to the people close to the MLA, Ramesh stated in the complaint.

Ramesh said he had approached Kumar Naik and explained him about the encroachment. But no action was taken, the official said.

The court, after examining the complaint, directed BMTF SP D Devaraj to register an FIR before July 29. The shops have been cleared following the court’s direction, the official added.

Another BMTF official said Ramesh said that the MLA had lied about the pavement belonging to the factory. But upon scrutiny, it was found that it belonged to the BBMP.

Meanwhile, MLA Byrathi Basavaraj claimed that people were trying to spoil his name and that he would answer them in the court.
